Another piece I much enjoyed. I don’t want to be a paid subscriber to anything else but please add a way to make a single donation and I’d be glad to contribute.
Real country music has had a huge boost in the last few years from new artists like Charley, Joshua Ray Walker, Joshua Hedley, Jeremy Pinnell and young women like Margo Cilker, Erin Enderlin, Sierra Ferrell and Emily Nanni. If you can carve out the time, they're worth some attention.
My first Austin history book, "Austin Music Is a Scene" will be out in a few months on TCU Press. The next one "Overserved" is next year on A&M Press. I have two Texas music history books already out. They're on Amazon if you go there.
P.s. I remember slinging beers your way when I was bar manager at Liberty Lunch from mid 1998 to mid 1989, including at Pogues show.
Good take on Charley. Also loved the CBS segment. Great story that needs to get more love.
Another great read! Thanks Michael. Glad to hear you're getting out more, and enjoying it!
Great column - cheered me up about music in general - and I’ve been tryna figure out what to listen to first - thanks for the map!
I would definitely listen to "In the Night" in its entirety. What an album!

Great article and thank you for sharing the CBS piece! 💙🎶
At 61 I don't get out much anymore either! Great Story, I really enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your little story with your besty. I will seek him out because if you liked him, his music has intrinsic value,
Will keep reading. And excuse my lameness, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to buy the book. Is there a link you can share or post?
