I used to go to Friends of Traditional Music (I think) jams at the Split Rail in the mid-70s. Basically a mix of hippies and rednecks who liked bluegrass and trad country.
If I’m remembering correctly (and this may be totally off) the Dicks were one of the inspirations for Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves. Jim Mathus was apparently at the Armadillo Punk Prom having come up from Corinth, Mississippi. Eventually he joined with Jack Yarber to create the Dry Heaves. Yarber went on to form the Oblivians while Mathus reincarnated with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. “Oh what a tangled web weave”
