fab information per usual -the Armadillo also hosted Steely Dan after they had come out with “Reeling in the Years”that we saw and it was fab…Best show I saw at City Coliseum was Stephen Stills when you could almost walk up and touch the performers

Worst sounds venue on your list was the Erwin Center at least for me. I don't have a replacement but....

Never saw so many DPS as the GD show at Manor Downs.

Great & informatiive list. But of note is the awful sound at Palmer and Austin Music Hall – far worse than any sound issues at Erwin cited in a previous comment by mslayout.

That’s a very good list. Michael, right when we moved to Austin in ‘75 or so, there was a great place at Bull Creek. Maybe the Bull Creek Party Barn (I see there’s a Danny Garrett t-shirt to commemorate the place). I think we went once, but it was gone soon after. Another really wonderful place was pre-Meadows in South Austin. There was a swimming pool and a bar all the Lone Star you could get down. I remember seeing Doug Sahm, but there were other fabulous shows there that I’ve forgotten.

Moved back to Westlake from Newport Beach in 2003. Off Bee Caves, west of Cuernavaca. Was ecstatic to realize the greatness of the Backyard. The Giant oaks , the giant Texas flag, the old austin vibe w a few old timer cedar choppers from Out West thrown in. 3 miles from my house.

Was even more ecstatic to realize that all my suburban neighbors were now taking their small kids to the Pier, on the lake off River Hills. When I was a growing up in the 70’s it was gloriously weed and topless hippie chicks dancing to the groove.

Now, I could take my own kids , get a burger and pitcher, sit at a picnic table next to the cold water, let my kids play in the sand volleyball court and hear real bands from 7:00-10:00 pm and sneak back home 2 miles away at a decent time.

Every May, the owner, Mike White, would have a big red dirt festival. Ragweed and all the young bucks would line up about 4-5 tour busses, get smashed and assemble who ever could stand to play a set for a few hours. Rinse and repeat.

About 50+ boats anchored listening. The whole crowd swam in from the boats. In swim trunks, bikinis, work boots and straw hats. Everyone wasted. The same 70s lake crowd just not wearing cut offs. And shaving their armpits.

I would be the only weird old guy. I’d call all my buddies and say you have to get down here you won’t believe this scene. No one ever came. Now it’s all gone and I still mourn.

Favorite show: Van Morrison and 14(?) piece New Caledonia at Armadillo in January 1974. Left during 5th encore, too fucked up.

Most disappointing: Morrison and a 4 piece at City Coliseum in November the same year. No encore; saw him driving away in a gold Mercedes before we cleared the exit.

Saving grace: Little Feat opened the Coliseum show.
