The Daniel in Bill Leissner's 1986 photo is how I remember Daniel best. We met soon after I moved into Dobie Hall in Summer 1982. He worked at McDonald's in Dobie Mall. We both were regulars at Record Exchange across the street. Of course, Daniel had a shoe box "display" of his tapes recycled from used bins for sale near the cash register. When I moved with Dobie friends to the end of W. 22nd Street at Longview (white house still there with fence, porch, separate garage) Daniel was our next door neighbor (22-1/2 St.) and occasional visitor. listening to music, etc. The drummer for the Butthole Surfers, Teresa Taylor (AKA Teresa Nervosa) lived across the street from us on Longview in the cute white cottage on the corner. Daniel and I went to parties at The Ark Co-Op which were fun, often with great bands of the day. Especially enjoyed nights at The Beach on 29th Street (now the Crown & Anchor Pub), often seeing Michael Corcoran at these places.
Funny thinking that the last two times I talked with Daniel we met in the Men's restrooms of the Soho Lounge on 6th Street during SXSW the night Harvey Sid Fisher was performing and at La Zona Rosa for Patti Smith. Got Daniel together with Harvey Sid as the two of them had the same artists award from the University of California, Berkeley. Think Jello Biafra and Wesley Willis got these as well. Like to remember Daniel's 80's days before he was so profoundly changed. We had lots of laughs and high times.
I miss Dan so much. I will never forget hearing him for the first time. Of course he was going to be famous!
I’m a believer

Never heard of the guy, his music, or met him, but this was written in a way that makes me want to check him out.
One rainy afternoon in Austin, Daniel came by with Heather and Gavin. Heather sang for us. All the ghosts came close to listen. RIP Daniel.
