MarkerMania gettin’ it right. And Michael Corcoran was right there helping get SIMS started. Thanks for the recognition. Don, Wayne & everyone at the ARC.
I lived on Music Lane in two different apartments. Also on the little dead end way lived Alvin Crow, Michael Mordecai, Townsend Miller and many other characters. Everybody’s AC was constantly going out and we had this repair man named Jack who was always “fixin” to get er “fixed”. One of the richest years of my life!
I remember shopping at Waterloo Records on a lunch break sometime in the later 80s and I'd found a Doug Sahm record I'd been looking for ("Border Wave") in the used bins and was looking around for anything else of interest when I noticed that Sir Doug himself was prowling around the store, too, chatting up clerks he knew and rummaging about. I got my LP signed before I checked out. He was tickled, and exuberant as usual, and I wonder if he thought I'd only picked out the record to get his signature, when it was really just dumb luck and serendipity?
it was a unique period in Austin at that time and I remember Toni Price being at “Mambo John Treaner’s last days as he battled the cancer that took him
The Commandos (Mark II) rehearsed at the ARC in 1990-92 and I remember it well. One would see all sorts of local panjandrums there. It had a vibe that was missed when the place closed. Affordable and collegial -- like Old Austin once was.
And Toni Price was a fierce, independent presence who stood up to power brokers and rule makers. God Save Toni!
Love what you made of those State landmark identifiers ha ha. In 1996, I went to Hippie Hour during my check-it-out first ever visit to Austin. I’m sure it helped seal the deal in my mind. Very fun post!
Was a hoot watching Toni fingering Freddy Fender’s turquoise necklace during the filming of the Who Were You Thinking Of? video at Zona Rosa. I was LZR site manager for the 26 hour marathon. The director tried to skip town without paying the 5k rental fee. We caught him at the airport. As head waitress at LZR she sucked. Just my opinion as management team. She didn’t last too long. Prima donna.

Shout out to Rich Brotherton who plays with everyone! 💙📚🎶 Love all your markers.

I Do have a faint memory of the haircut, I think.
Ok. My bad memory.
You wouldn't have recognized him with that big hair.
I don't think Don was Charlie's drummer, at least, not before the opening of the ARC.
Don played drums on the '86 Pictures for Pleasure tour- first visit to Austin.
