Emmet Shelton got the land from Cedar Choppers in payment for his representing them in their criminal trials. Good book on the subject was written by Ken Roberts, Cedar Choppers, Life on the Edge of Nothing

Wow, I can't believe I'm reading this, Michael. I started investigating this story last year but never got to the absolute bottom of it. You've done a stellar job, but there's actually a couple more chapters to the saga of the feuds between this ecosystem of gravel haulers/nightclub operators. I'm not trying to be coy, but I can't go into it now because it would take me all day and use up too much of your bandwidth. Anyway, big pat on the back, daddy-o. Edit: (PS I should've added brothel-keepers to that hyphenate subculture.)

George Majewski helped sponsor our Oat Willie’s softball team in the early 70’s. Alvin Crow and Doug Sahm both played on the team when they were in town. Crazy times and a lot of fun, especially on Halloween when we played in costumes.

fabulous history recount and the photo of Paul Ray and Denny F and SRV is a Keeper…I frequented Sopa Creek there for Paul Ray and the Cobras but Doug Sahm as well he liked my housemate former lead singer of Steam Heat Phil Ritcherson( he passed unfortunately in the last couple of months)quite a bit and I got to hear some of their conversations there…What’s amazing to me

(I went to UT Austin in the earlier 1970s)is that Greezy Wheels a NYC group that came to Austin in a bus way back in the day and stayed)was pretty overwhelmingly the #1 band of times they played at the Armadillo World Headquarters and a solid #2 at Soap Creek Saloon and to me that has to be worth writing a book just about them for their contributions to Austin music and what it became …Fine stuff on the history again of the great city’s voyage to be a music capital as well as the Capitol of Texas
