Great column. I’ve always loved the Go-Go’s and Valentine especially. Seeing an all female band was revolutionary to me. Thanks for spurring my memory on.
OMG. Marilyn Dean. Hadn't heard that name in nearly 40 years. She dated Stevie Wilson, a drummer for Tony Dukes band, The Effect. Stevie was a Houston oil-trust-fund baby who drove a restored Buick Riviera complete with curb feelers. I think I still have my copy of Jessie Sublett and the Skunks first single "Earthquake Shake." And I've got it on good authority that Belinda Carlisle hooked up with Jimmie Vaughan. The closing of Mother Earth sent Vickie Wade to Dallas where she started waiting tables at Mother Blues. The Texas music thread runs deep.
Yes. I remember Project Terror well. They were short-lived, so I figured no one would have heard of them. Stevie on drums, Tony Dukes on bass, and the drummer for Eric Johnson, Bill-something-or-other, on guitar. They wrangled an endorsement from DiMarzio pickups somehow. Still have the copy of BUDDY magazine with a full-page ad for them in it. Stevie and Tony are dead now. No idea where Marilyn wound up.
Who knew! Another great Austin moment. So looking forward to your book

Didn’t know about all of the Austin connections! Amazing. All roads lead to!
Great stuff on the Go-Go's and Kathy V. I opened for them at the Whisky around 1980, I wonder if that was Kathy's first show?

Stevie Wilson got the Violators their first gig, when they opened for Wilson's band Project Terror at Raul's.

Marilyn passed away not long ago. Bill Maddox, from EJ's band, was murdered in 2010 by a deranged neighbor.
DAMN. Everyone is dying.
Go-Gos were great, but I like BBs better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSAqBWMAgvg
